How Shield Swap works with your wallet

Shield Swap is a web app for trading assets and providing liquidity. You can browse markets, pools, prices, liquidity, and registered assets without a wallet. Any action that moves funds, such as a swap or a new position, needs Shield Wallet. Shield Wallet holds the confidential balance that Shield Swap trades from, and it approves every transaction before it is sent. The app labels this balance Private Balance. Your wallet address stays out of the public market data. The assets traded, the amount, the route, the output, any refund, the price movement, and the timing of each swap are public. See Public data for the full list. You do not need ALEO to trade. Shield Swap covers the network fee for trading activity, and Shield Wallet shows Covered by Shield in each transaction request.

Install Shield Wallet

Before you start You’ll need: Chrome or a Chromium-based desktop browser, such as Brave.
  1. Open the Shield extension in the Chrome Web Store. Check that the publisher is Provable Inc.
  2. Install the extension and complete the browser prompts.
  3. Open Shield from your browser’s extensions menu.
  4. Follow the setup prompts to create a new wallet or import an existing one. For a new wallet, Shield Wallet walks you through backing up the seed phrase, naming the account, and setting a password. The Shield extension setup guide covers each screen.
Never enter your seed phrase in Shield Swap. Shield Swap never asks for it. Enter it only in Shield Wallet’s own import or recovery flow, and store the written copy offline.
Shield Wallet is installed and unlocked, with your account selected.

Connect to Shield Swap

Before you start You’ll need: Shield Wallet installed and unlocked, with the account you want to use selected.
  1. Open Shield Swap in the same browser. From shield.fi, Launch App opens it in a new tab.
  2. Select Connect Wallet at the top right.
  3. In the Connect Shield Wallet dialog, read the Terms of Use and Privacy Policy notice, then select Agree and Connect.
  4. In the Connect to this site? prompt in Shield Wallet, check that the site is swap.shield.fi. If the prompt says your wallet is on a different network, selecting Connect switches it to the network Shield Swap uses.
  5. Select Connect.
  6. In the Sign message panel in Shield Wallet, select Sign. The message records your acceptance of the current Terms of Use and related disclosures. Signing it is free and creates no transaction.
  7. If a referral prompt appears, enter a code or select Skip for now. The prompt appears once per wallet. You can add a code later from the wallet menu under Referral.
Your wallet address replaces Connect Wallet at the top right, and the trade panel’s button changes to Enter Amount. To disconnect, select your address at the top right, then Disconnect. To use a different account, switch accounts in Shield Wallet and connect again.

Move a public balance into your confidential balance

Shield Swap trades only from the confidential balance in Shield Wallet. If an asset arrived as a public balance, move it into your confidential balance first. Shield Wallet calls this shielding. Before you start You’ll need: a public balance of the asset in Shield Wallet.
  1. Open Shield Wallet and select Shield.
  2. Select the asset. The Public filter shows only assets with a public balance.
  3. With Shield selected at the top, enter the amount, or select 25%, 50%, 75%, or Max.
  4. Select Next.
  5. On the summary screen, check the amount, the network, and the estimated fee, then select Shield.
  6. Select Confirm.
The asset moves to the Private filter in Shield Wallet, and Shield Swap can trade it. The summary screen shows the current fee for this action. For the reverse direction and more detail, see Shielding and unshielding tokens in Shield in the Shield Wallet support hub.

Your first trade

With Shield Wallet connected, a first trade runs through four pages.

Fund your wallet

Open Fund Wallet and move a supported asset into Shield Wallet. See Fund your wallet.

Pick a market and check the quote

Shield Swap opens on Trade. Use Buy or Sell to trade the selected market, or open Swap to exchange any two assets. The panel shows the price, the swap fee, the price impact, and the least you will receive. See Quote.

Confirm the trade

Review the details, select Confirm & Swap, then approve the request in Shield Wallet. See Swap.

Check the result

Open Portfolio, then select History. If a swap went through but the funds have not arrived, open Pending Claims. See Swap history and recovery.
To provide liquidity instead of trading, open Pools. See Manage positions.
